While roasted coffee and green coffee do share some of the same compounds, the roasting process significantly changes the chemical profile of coffee beans. One of the main differences is that green coffee contains much larger quantities of chlorogenic acids. These include caffeoylquinic acids, dicaffeoylquinic acids, feruloylquinic acids, p-coumaroylquinic acids and mixed diesters of caffeic and ferulic acids with quinic acid. When coffee is roasted, significant portions of these chlorogenic acids are transformed into completely different compounds.
Green coffee beans contain up to 7 percent chlorogenic acid. Roasted coffee beans lose some of the amount they contain during the roasting process. For example, in a medium roast coffee, about 50% of the original chlorogenic acid is destroyed and transformed into new compounds, namely caffeic acid and quinic acid. (1)
From a performance enhancing standpoint, much like roasted coffee, the caffeine in the green coffee beans will boost your energy level during physical bouts of both aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
As with all fat burners that contain caffeine, you should be mindful of how much daily caffeine you consume.
In addition, if you plan on using green coffee in the form of a supplement as green coffee bean extract, then try to stick to products that contain relatively few ingredients. While fat-burner stack type supplements aren't inherently bad, many of them are filled with far too many stimulants and / or artificial ingredients that are detrimental to your health. Always read the ingredient label and avoid green coffee supplements with too many filler ingredients or proprietary blends that don't reveal the quantities of the substances on the label.
